Basics
Siege is a game mode where Clans defend their own Clan Fortress while simultaneously attacking one owned by another Clan. The Clan that destroys their enemy’s Stronghold and earns the most Victory Medals will be declared the winner.
Phases
There are four Siege Phases: Prep, Matchmaking, Battle, and Results Calculation.
The Prep Phase lasts 12 days. During this Phase, players can set Defense Teams in buildings, upgrade buildings, as well as set Bonuses and Conditions in them. In order to proceed to the Matchmaking Phase, a Clan needs to set at least 15 Defense Teams within their Clan Fortress.
The Matchmaking Phase lasts less than a day and it’s where the Clan’s opponent is chosen. The Matchmaking Phase begins immediately after the end of the Prep Phase. Players cannot interact with their Clan Fortress during the Matchmaking Phase to upgrade buildings, set Defense Teams and so on.
To take part in Matchmaking, your Clan must meet the following requirements:
- At least 15 of your Clan’s Members must have reached level 45
- Your Clan must have earned at least 50 Clan Activity Stars during the 7 days before the start of the Matchmaking Phase
- Your Clan must have set at least 15 Defense Teams in the Clan Fortress during the Prep Phase
During a Clan’s first Siege, the game will distribute them into a Siege Tier in accordance with their performance in the last 4 CvC Tournaments, and gives each Clan as many Victory Points as is needed for that Siege Tier. There are 6 Tiers in total.
Here is how many Victory Points are needed for each Siege Tier:
Starting from the 2nd Siege, the game matches Clans depending on the number of Victory Points they have earned from Sieges. A Clan’s Siege Tier determines how many Victory Points Clan Members earn during a Siege from winning battles, defending buildings and so on.
A Clan Member will earn Victory Points for each victory (either ATK or DEF) they earn during a Siege. Likewise, they will lose Victory Points for each loss. Victory Points are not lost or gained from rebattle victories within Mana Shrines. Clans in Siege Tier 1 will also not lose Victory Points for battle losses.
Additionally, the Clan will earn Victory Points if it wins a Siege.
The Battle Phase lasts 2 days. During this Phase, players attack enemy Defense Teams in enemy buildings and will observe attacks on their Clan Fortress from their opponent.
The Results Calculation Phase lasts less than a day. During this Phase, the game makes final calculations to determine the Siege’s overall winner.
Prep Phase Overview
During the Prep Phase, the main focus of your Clan will be to upgrade or repair any buildings, coordinate which Clan Members will defend which buildings, and then set the particular Bonuses and Conditions that will apply across the Clan Fortress. There are 5 kinds of buildings in the Clan Fortress: the Stronghold, Posts, Mana Shrines, Magic Towers and Defense Towers, each with their own specific features. Every Clan Fortress has the same layout and number of buildings. All Clans start their first Siege with the same conditions.
The Clan Fortress can also be broken down into Layers. As of the launch of Siege, the Clan Fortress only has one Layer, which consists of the Stronghold and all of its surrounding buildings.
Buildings
- The Stronghold is the main building in the Fortress. One of the primary objectives of a Siege is to destroy the enemy Stronghold while simultaneously defending yours. The Stronghold is also where the Clan Leader or Deputies can install a Layer Bonus - a powerful effect that applies to every building in the Layer.
- Mana Shrines are buildings where players can earn an important resource - Mana Orbs - for ‘rebattling’ already defeated Defense Teams. You cannot set Bonuses in Mana Shrines, but Mana Shrines can be influenced by Bonuses applied by other buildings.
- Magic Towers are buildings of specific strategic importance, as they can apply Bonuses to any neighbouring buildings they are connected to via a path. These ‘magic paths’ are indicated by a unique color, compared to normal paths between buildings.
- Defense Towers are highly defensible keeps where players can set individual Bonuses. All Defense Teams within a Defense Tower are affected by the Bonus set within it.
- Posts aren’t technically buildings, but are important tactical locations like bridges, barricades, and crossroads. Posts cannot be upgraded or destroyed, but can be affected by Bonuses from Magic Towers and the Stronghold. Posts are also the only places where Clan Members can set Conditions.
Defending and upgrading buildings
To defend buildings, Clan Members must set Defense Teams in them. The number of Defense Teams that can be set in a building depends on the level the building has been upgraded to. The higher the level, the more Defense Teams can be set.
To upgrade a building, you need a special resource – Florins. Each Clan Member can earn Florins by winning battles and then invest them in upgrading a building of their choice. The maximum level a building can be upgraded to depends on the Stronghold. If your Stronghold is at Level 2, buildings can only be upgraded to that level.
To set a Defense Team in a building, a Clan Member will need to use a DEF Scroll. DEF Scrolls are given to each Clan Member at the beginning of the Prep Phase. The number of DEF Scrolls given depends on the level of buildings in the Clan Fortress and the number of players in the Clan.
Champions cannot be set in multiple Defense Teams, but Champions set in a Defense Team can be used to attack enemy buildings.
Each Clan Member can also set up a single Reserve Team, which will automatically be set in any empty Team Slots in the Clan Fortress at the end of the Prep Phase. In this case, the game will take a random Reserve Team from a random player and place it in an empty Team Slot. If there are not enough Reserve Teams, the game will leave any remaining Team Slots empty.
Destroying and repairing buildings
During the Battle Phase, all buildings (except Posts) can be destroyed. A building counts as destroyed when all Defense Teams inside it have been defeated. Bonuses cannot be set in destroyed buildings, and destroyed buildings cannot apply Bonuses to other buildings.
Buildings remain ‘destroyed’ until they are repaired during the Prep Phase. Destroyed buildings hold a smaller number of Defense Teams than normal buildings. Clan Members can donate Florins during the Prep Phase to repair a destroyed building. Once repaired, the building will return to the level it was at before it was destroyed.
Bonuses
Bonuses are powerful effects that can be set in the Stronghold, Magic Towers, and Defense Towers. Bonuses can affect either defenders inside them or attackers attempting to destroy them.
There are three Bonus Categories that players can access. These Categories are directly related to the level of the building, with Level 1 buildings being able to access Bonus Category 1, Level 2 buildings having access to Bonus Categories 1 and 2, and so on. In general, the higher the Bonus Category, the more powerful it is.
Only the Clan Leader and Deputies can set, change or remove Bonuses in buildings. To do this, they spend Mana Orbs from the Clan’s shared Mana Orb Cache. Clan Members must donate Mana Orbs to the Cache to give the Clan access to stronger Bonuses.
Conditions
Conditions are special battle restrictions that only apply to Posts, similar to Stages found within the Cursed City. Conditions apply both to the attacker and defender. Only the Clan Member who has set a Defense Team in a Post can set, remove or change the Condition. Unlike Bonuses, players need to spend Mana Orbs from their own personal supply to activate a Condition.
Much like Bonuses, there are also 3 categories of Condition. In each Post, a Clan Member can select one of three randomly assigned Conditions, decided at the beginning of the Siege. The higher the level of the Stronghold, the higher the chance that a Condition of a higher category will be available in the Post.
If a Bonus or a Condition is removed during the Prep Phase, the Mana Orbs spent will be returned to the player in the case of a Condition, or to the Clan’s Mana Orbs Cache in the case of Bonuses.
Setting a Defense Team
When setting a Defense Team in a Team Slot, a Clan Member will “book” the Team Slot for 3 real-world minutes – meaning only they have access to the Team Slot. If 3 minutes pass and the Clan Member has not set a Defense Team, the Team Selection window will close and the Clan member will need to reopen the specific Team Selection window to set a Defense Team. Clan Members cannot book more than 5 Team Slots at the same time. They must wait until one of the booking timers expires before setting another Defense Team.
This booking timer and 5 Team Slot limit is to prevent Clan Members from permanently locking out other Clan Members from placing Defense Teams in specific locations. As for editing an already set Defense Team, there is no timer.
Changing Defense Teams between Sieges
After a Siege ends, Defense Teams will remain set in each building, no matter if the Clan won or lost. Defense Teams will only be automatically removed from Team Slots in two instances:
- A building was destroyed during the previous Siege and the Team Slot that the Defense Team was in is now locked as a result of the building’s destruction
- The number of total available DEF Scrolls has decreased for the upcoming Siege, and a Clan Member no longer has enough Scrolls to set a Defense Team. In this situation, Defense Teams will be removed according to the building’s priority (Posts being the lowest priority building, followed by Defense Towers, Magic Towers, Mana Shrines and the Stronghold being the highest priority)
When saving Defense Teams, DEF Scrolls will be deducted automatically. For example, if a Clan Member sets 3 Defense Teams, 3 DEF Scrolls will be deducted. In the next Prep Phase, DEF Scrolls will automatically be given to the Clan Member, and 3 will be deducted for the three pre-set Defense Teams.
A Clan Member can set, remove, or change a Defense Team any time during the Prep Phase. When a Defense Team is removed from a Team Slot, the DEF Scroll needed to set that team will be returned to the Clan Member.
Rewards for undestroyed buildings
If a building remains undestroyed at the end of the Battle Phase, the entire Clan will receive Victory Medals. Only one Defense Team needs to remain standing within a building to prevent it from being destroyed or captured.
Rewards for undefeated Defense Teams
If any of a Clan Member’s Defense Teams remain undefeated at the end of the Battle Phase, they will be awarded Florins for each undefeated Team. If the Stronghold or Mana Shrines remain undestroyed at the end of the Battle Phase, Mana Orbs will be awarded to all Clan members who had at least 1 battle victory (ATK or DEF) during this Siege.
Attacking in the Battle Phase
To attack during the Battle Phase, players need ATK Scrolls. The number of ATK Scrolls given to each Clan Member depends on the number of players in their Clan and the level of buildings in the enemy Fortress. Players who have joined the Clan after the start of the Matchmaking Phase will not receive ATK Scrolls.
ATK Scrolls are deducted regardless of the outcome of the battle. If a player loses a battle, they can use a Rematch Scroll to retry. Each player receives as many Rematch Scrolls as ATK Scrolls. Rematch Scrolls can be spent in any order - but only in battles where the player has already lost once.
In the Battle Phase, there is a limit for using Champions in attack. Each Champion can be used in ATK battles no more than 2 times. This limit concerns all ATK battles (battles for ATK Scrolls and Rematch Scrolls, as well as rebattles in Mana Shrines).
Players must defeat enemy Defense Teams in buildings to move forward on the Clan Fortress map and open new buildings for attack. Players unlock buildings one at a time, according to their location and connecting paths (the next building is unlocked after all Teams in the previous building are defeated).
The same principle is applied inside buildings - each building (except Posts) has a different number of Groups. Each Group contains between 1 and 3 enemy Defense Teams. To attack the next Team in a Group, you must first defeat the previous one. You can, however, choose which Group to attack first.
If the enemy has not set a Defense Team in a Team Slot, this Slot can be captured without a battle. This does still require the use of an ATK Scroll.
Rebattles
In Mana Shrines, Clan Members can ‘rebattle’ already defeated enemy Defense Teams to earn additional Mana Orbs. For such battles, Scrolls are not required, but there is a limit: each player can only fight 1 rebattle. It doesn’t matter who defeated the enemy Team: a player can fight a rebattle against an enemy team defeated by another member of the Clan.
Rewards for winning an ATK battle
For each victory in a battle where a player has used a Scroll, they will receive Florins. For destroying a Stronghold or a Mana Shrine, all Clan Members who achieved at least 1 battle victory during the current Siege will receive a Mana Orb reward.
Declaring an attack
Similar to choosing a Defense Team, there is a time limit for choosing your team to attack an opponent. As with Defense Team selection, a Clan Member “books” the Slot for 3 minutes, where they must pick their Champions and initiate the battle. If they fail to make a decision within the time limit, the pre-battle window will close and another player will be free to attack this opponent.
A Team Slot is considered booked until the timer expires and like with Defense Teams, a player can only book a maximum of 5 Team Slots to attack.
Rewards for destroying a building
When an enemy building is destroyed, the Clan receives a certain number of Victory Medals:
Winning a Siege
To win a Siege, the Clan must complete 2 objectives:
- Destroy the enemy’s Stronghold
- Earn more Victory Medals than the enemy Clan
If at least one of these conditions is not met, a Clan cannot be declared the winner. If neither Clan is able to achieve these 2 objectives, the Siege is declared a loss for both Clans.
If the Clan has met the victory conditions, then each Clan Member who achieves at least 1 battle victory during the Siege will receive a Victory Chest. The contents of the Victory Chest depends on what Siege Tier the Clan is currently in. The Victory Chest can only be received after the end of the Results Calculation Phase.
Victory Medal Rewards
Regardless of the results of the Siege, all Clan Members can collect Milestone Rewards when the Clan collects a certain number of Victory Medals.
Players who joined the Clan after the start of the Matchmaking Phase will not receive either Milestone Rewards or the Victory Chest.
Claiming rewards after leaving a Clan
If the player has left the Clan or the Clan has been shut down, and the player has unclaimed Mana Orbs, they will be added to the player’s account. If they have any unclaimed Florins before leaving the Clan, they won’t be added to the player’s account.
If the player has left the Clan or the Clan has been shut down, and the player has unclaimed Milestone Rewards, they will be added to the player’s Inbox.
A player will not get the rewards that became available after they left the Clan.
Clan Rankings
There are two types of Rankings:
- Building-specific Rankings that show how many Florins a Clan Member has donated to a specific building during the current Siege and across all previous Sieges.
- Clan-wide Rankings that show the number of Mana Orbs and Florins donated by each Clan Member, as well as how many ATK and DEF battles each Clan Member won.
